Dartagnan emerged as a result of the successful deployment of the world’s first commercially operated Registered Traveler service program “Privium” at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Since the launch of Privium in 2001, Dartagnan has introduced the Saphire RT program in Indonesia in 2005 and will launch the first Transatlantic RT program in 2008.
In 1999 Schiphol Group initiated the project to develop the Privium program for the airport’s most loyal users. The service program was officially opened to the public in October 2001 by the Dutch Minister of Justice.
With the launch of Privium, Schiphol Group and Joh. Enschede, the Dutch security printing company, decided to start a joint venture company to leverage the experience, know-how and products and services of Privium. They formed the company Dartagnan in 2002
In 2004, the Privium program welcomed member number 20,000 and won the national Dutch privacy award. This award is granted to programs that value the privacy of its members. The fact that the biometric details of the Privium members are stored on a personalized smart card and not in a database was the most important reason for receiving the award.

In 2004 Dartagnan became a full subsidiary company of Schiphol Group after Joh. Enschede sold all its shares in Dartagnan to Schiphol Group.
In 2005 the realization of the Saphire program started. Dartagnan delivered all system solutions for the program. Dartagnan further productized the various systems necessary to commercially operate RT programs.
In 2006 the Saphire program was officially opened by the Indonesian Minister of Immigration and received its license to operate from the Indonesian Government.

May 2008 the start of the International Traveler Initiative and pilot program between the USA and the Netherlands is announced. Dartagnan, on behalf of Schiphol Group and the Netherlands Ministry of Justice is managing the project deliverables from the Dutch side.
